Autism and Medical Cannabis

Autism is a neurodevelopmental condition that’s complex. In some cases, it can impact communication, your motor skills, your development intellectually, and so much more. it’s a spectrum, so it’s not something that’s one size fits all in terms of this condition, and it’s something that doesn’t really have one cause pinpointed. Some people say that it’s because of genetics, others say due to the environment. However, cannabis can help with ASD, treating the symptoms associated with it.

All about autism

Autism is a spectrum condition, meaning that it’s not something that’s necessarily easy for you to pinpoint. Some people have more challenges than others, including behavioral issues and issues with interactions socially. With autism, the symptoms usually appear early on, but there are people who are diagnosed much later than early ages.

Some people may have more sensitivity than others, including sensitivities to some textures and foods, issues with social skills, and behaviors which are repetitive. But some people may have far less symptoms, and they may seem neurotypical in most cases. The thing is, with autism, it isn’t a singular condition that everyone seems to face. Instead, it’s something that’s a bit different, and it’s important to realize that with these differences, you may notice different challenges too.

How Marijuana Helps autism

Cannabis and ASD is still something that we only understand a little bit about. In fact, we’re still looking at some of the conditions. But there is some feedback from patients, prescribers, along with caregivers, and they say that medical cannabis may be good for alleviating different symptoms in patients.  Usually, some pharmaceuticals get prescribed to help with the side effects that people struggle with, but the problem is, it comes with other side effects that aren’t very good either for many people.

Marijuana can help with these conditions:

  • Seizures
  • Anxiety
  • Word issues and expression
  • Self-harm
  • Seizures
  • Insomnia

How to Use Marijuana for Autism

The cool thing  about this, is marijuana can be used for ASD conditions quite easily. Some people with autism have other conditions too, including ADHD and seizures, and the diagnosis is something they might get at a young age. Before cannabis, usually these patients try to use different means to handle social settings.  However, these drugs may have other side effects, which aren’t healthy. However, with cannabis, you can mitigate the use of AEDs and also help those who suffer from nonverbal problems that are associated with autism.  A lot of people who are nonverbal may actually start to improve their language through the use of this and are even able to talk better with them too.

Others have managed to find relief from seizures and other conditions, and it can help with social interactions. Some people with autism struggle with aggression and being overwhelmed during social gatherings, even small ones where they may go out with a friend or a couple of family members. However, with cannabis, it can help with improving your life, making social situations better and more navigational, and can even help reduce seizures, sometimes for years too.

A cool thing lots of people who used to take a lot of medications for cannabis begin to realize is that instead of taking pills upon pills every single day just to navigate through life, they don’t have to take this, and with cannabis, it makes things even better, and much easier. So yes, cannabis is great for ASD and some of the symptoms of this, and with this, many people who may otherwise struggle with these factors are able to live better lives.
