Can you Smoke Weed Stems

The stems of the cannabis plant are a part of the plant, and you can smoke them technically. But should you? It’s unlikely that it will help, and the taste is really bad. Are there any benefits though? Here’s the answer.

The Truth About Weed Stems

Weed stems are literally the stems of the plant itself that are attached directly to where the flowers are. Depending on the quality of the strain, and the type of strain you purchase, this can be attached to the bud itself. They usually contain very little amounts of both THC and CBD, if you want the truth of it.

So can you?

While it technically is possible for you to consume these, it’s actually not very beneficial.

In fact, there are no benefits, since there’s no cannabinoids in this, and there are a few potential risks that do come with this, so it’s not worth eating them raw, or smoking them.

The Risks

Yes, there are risks to this.

The flower doesn’t have as much fiber as the stems.

The stems tend to also burn much faster, and get much hotter, so there will be more smoke. Basically, you’re inhaling a lot of smoke.

This can cause some different side effect, such as:

  • A headache
  • A sore throat
  • Coughing
  • Nausea
  • Abdominal pain

It also just tastes foul. It’s best for you to not consume these through smoking and use them in another way.

How else can you use them?

There are different ways to do so.

Before you even think about utilizing these stems though, always make sure to decarboxylate them. That’s the process of heating them up, to activate those cannabinoids that are in there, and usually, it uses light and heat. When you smoke it, you do this.

To make this happen, put the stems on a baking sheet, and bake them around 225 degrees Fahrenheit for about an hour or so.

You can then use them for different things.

One popular way is to add them to cannabutter, which you can use to make some edibles.

It’s important though, that you also want to add more than just the stems to this, as there is going to be far less THC to this, and it may impact the overall experience of this.

Another fun thing to do is to make tea. You can do this by grinding up about a teaspoon worth of the stems itself, and then put them into a tea infuser, and then, add that to the teacup. Let this sit to diffuse for a bit.

You can also just put this through a strainer in order to consume this product.

Be mindful that this is very bitter, so you might want to add some honey or a sweetener to the tea itself.

Another thing you can do with this is tinctures. You basically take the stems, and then, you can add them to tinctures.  You can then add them to drinks, or just have it taken in a sublingual manner.

Finally, you’ve got topicals.  These can be infused directly with some coconut oil in order to make lip balms and lotions. This is great for treating acne and arthritis, which is something that it can help with.

The truth is, the stems aren’t that good, and if you’re really not interested in the taste, it’s better to just have other parts of the cannabis plant. But if you refuse to waste cannabis parts, then this may be something to consider, especially if you like to cook with cannabis.
